The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant is located near Hongyanhe Township, Wafangdian city, Liaoning province. It is the first nuclear power project licensed to construct during the 11th Five Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development. The plant was constructed in phases, housing six pressurized water reactor units with a planned capacity of 6000 MW at the site. Phase I project of construction comprises four CRP1000 reactor units, all of which have now been put into commercial operations. The phase II of construction project is an expansion at the same site, comprising two 1000 MW ACPR1000 reactor units, Units 5 and 6. Construction began on 29 March 2015 and 24 July, respectively.
