The Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant is located on the original Lengjiazhuang and Dongjiazhuang villages, Liugezhuang Township, Haiyang city, east of the headland surrounded by sea on three sides. The plant site is 10 km from Haiyang’s Liugezhuang Township, 13 km from the Fengcheng road, 22 km from Haiyang city, 93 km from Yantai city and 107 km from Qingdao city. The plant is a nuclear power project constructed by the China Electricity Group Corporation as a holding investor. The site is planned to have six 1000 MW pressurized water reactor units, with a proposed project for expansion of two 1250 MW units. Phase I project on the site houses a pair of Westinghouse 1000 MW pressurized water reactor units of third generation AP1000 reactor type. The construction cost was estimated to be 40 billion RMB. The construction on Hangyang Unit I started on 24 September 2009 and the reactor building capping was completed on 29 March 2013. The construction on Unit 2 began on 20 June 2010.
