The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant is located at coastal city of Yangjiang on the western Guangdong province. With a planned total investment of 70 billion RMB, the plant houses six 1000 MW nuclear units of Chinese self-owned brand CPR1000 reactor type, with each producing 1080 MWe of electricity. Construction on Unit 1 began on 16 December 2008 with commercial operations starting on 25 March 2014, followed by Unit 2 on 4 June 2009 with commercial operations on 5 June 2015, Unit 3 on 15 November 2010 with commercial operations on 1 January 2016, and Unit 4 on 17 November 2012 with commercial operations on 15 March 2017. Construction on Unit 5 began on 18 September 2013 with the first fuel loading completed on 22 April 2018. Unit 6 began construction on 23 December 2013, currently in the stage of equipment installation and commission.
