The Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, located east of Qisha peninsula in Fangchenggang city, Guangxi Province, is the first nuclear power project built both in western China and one of the minority nationality regions in China. The project is built and operated by the Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Company, that was formed under the jointly investment of China National Nuclear Corporation and Guangxi Investment Group. It was planned to have six 1000 MW pressurized water reactor units, supported by a total investment of 70 billion RMB. Units 1 and 2, a CPR1000 reactor type, began construction on 30 July and 23 December respectively in 2010. Unit 1 entered commercial operations on 1 January 2016 and Unit 2 on 1 October 2016. Units 3 and 4 are of Hualong I reactor type, began construction on 23 December 2015 and on 23 December 2016, respectively, with the earthwork now under ongoing.
