MEE/ECRO completed the 2018 work on radiation environmental safety oversight of uranium mining and milling facilities
2019-02-01

Recently, MEE/ECRO organized a regulatory inspectorate to carry out oversight inspection of radiation environmental safety for the decommissioning project of Baofengyuan Mine Area at the No. 724 Mine under the responsibility of CNNC Jiangxi Bureau of Mining and Milling. So far, MEE/ECRO has successfully completed the 2018 regulatory oversight task on radiation environmental safety through deploying 35 person-day oversight force and proposing 29 rectification and improvement requirements.

In 2018, repeatedly harassing typhoon in East China area increased rainfall in the uranium mining and milling area, where although 3 uranium companies were offline, waste treatment facilities were still in operation, leading to increasing radiation environmental risks during flood season. Although challenge and pressure were faced, MEE/ECRO took the initiative actions to organize the 2018 Exchange Activity on Radiation Environmental Safety in the mining and milling area in East China region. Through a combination of scientific deployment and oversight by laws, the shutdown mining and milling facilities were made to enter a new phase of decommissioning and management. Reinforced environmental safety precautions in response to major contingency effectively ensured the radiation environmental safety during the flood season.

MEE/ECRO will further strengthen the sense of mission in being a faithful practitioner of Xi Jinping’s thought of ecological progress. MEE/ECRO will continue to firmly foster the sense of mission to ensure the public health and environmental safety in strict accordance with the laws, by urging the uranium mining and milling enterprises to improve political standing, enhancing the safety risks screening, and complying with the baseline for reach-standard discharge to ensure the safety of radiation environment.
